Minutes of Board Meeting

Sept. 24, 2007

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm by President Colleen Scott.  Association Manager, Danny Altizer did the roll call. Scott Barker, Bill Peacocke, Pat Russell, Wes Klocke, Bev Conklin, Steve Londeau, George Bell, Ken Paczas, Martie Boron, Susan Schaaf, Jeff Elswick, Mark Kuczborski, Norm Kluska, Georgette Patrick and Mark Scripsick were present. Rick Farr, Preston Thompson and Sandy Haner were not in attendance. A motion to accept the minutes as published was made and seconded. The motion passed.

 

Managers Report: Altizer reported that we had entered 2222 2007-08 memberships since Aug. 1. and that 37 leagues had been certified.

 

Financial Report: The manager reported that the last fiscal year’s financial report was almost completed and that a final audit will be taken this week. At that point Susan and Bill will begin instructions on the new financial program.

 

Communications: Altizer read communications. He mentioned that the Michigan State Womens USBC sent forms for nominations to it’s Hall of Fame. We have literature concerning the Susan Komen Foundation and a Bronze Conference training class for coaches was being held in Indiana in November. 

 

Certification: Steve reported that the manager had sent out a letter to each of the centers advising them of the new inspection rule that calls for only a mandatory once per year dressing inspection.

 

Promotions & Communciation Ken reported that the display cases were up in all of the houses. A banner and flag are being designed for promoting our association.

 

Strategic Planning: Bill reported that a few of us attended the Strategic Planning Conference hosted by MDUSBC with Headquarters employee Charlotte Mordini as the instructor. Most of the Strategic Plan was done at that meeting. The committee will meet soon and finalize the plan.

 

Tournament Rules: Ken gave a report on the tournaments rules. The committee has recommended that participation gifts will only be given for the Mach Memorial as it is the 25th annual. Ken made the motion to print the entries for the Queens. It was supported and passed. 

 

Youth Committee: Mark Scripsick reported that a meeting was being held next week Ken reported that he had been asked to bring to the board a request by the youth committee to purchase banners for the centers to display for their youth tournament. Ken said the cost would be about $500.00. After some discussion Jeff made a motion to purchase 7 banners to be paid for the youth committee if they had funds available. If all or a portion of the funds were not available the Association would make up the difference. The motion was seconded by Bev and passed.

State BA Tournament: Bill Peacocke reported that the lap tops were bought and we saved a substantial amount of money. He reported that a meeting will be held this coming Thursday with some Flint representatives to discuss jackpots and raffle sales and the board is invited. Bill made a motion to rescind the motion that was made last month that paid the Brackets people $25.00. It was seconded and passed. He then reported that the Singles and Doubles bracket people have traditionally been paid $5.00 more. Bill made a motion to pay the Singles and Doubles workers $30.00 per squad. Wes seconded and it passed. Colleen reported that the State Tournament manager has asked us to be a rider on our Raffle license. They are willing to pay us $600.00 per center. After discussion a motion to table the decision until we could talk to the Flint people was made and seconded. The motion passed. 

 

SEMBCA: Scott reported that 5 or 6 of our centers will be participating in the Pins Over Average promotion.

 

New Business The DVD on the Registered Volunteer Program was shown. After the showing there was some discussion on whether we had previously committed to the program. Jeff made a motion to immediately join the program if we had not already agreed to. Steve seconded it and it passed.
